Smart water tanks & trucks project

Smart Water Tanks & Trucks | South Africa

“Initiatives under way to arrest SA’s R7.2bn yearly water-loss scourge (2013) vs 41% of Municipal water did not generate revenue, and 35% was lost through leakage, representing an annual loss of R9.9 billion (2020)”

The need for monitoring and measuring the quality of water supplied by water service authorities is regarded as crucial to gain a better understanding of the nature and extent of the challenges faced by the water sector.

Technology Readiness Level: 6

Description The purpose of the technology is to improve service delivery in local municipalities by the invention that relates to a smart water tank that comprises a liquid level and water quality sensor which is arranged to communicate with a remote server, the conditions of the tank. The server can then communicate with other devices, such as devices of community members to notify them about the condition of the tank. The server can also communicate with a device associated with third party assigned to replenish the water in the smart water tank. The third party may receive a request from the server to fill up the tank when the liquid level in the tank reaches a threshold value, and the location of the third party assigned to fill up the smart water tank may be shared with the server which in turn may share the location of the third party with the devices of the persons, such as community members, to whom the smart water tank is associated.
